The Tropical Grazing Institute is a research center in Costa Rica dedicated to sustainable livestock practices in the tropics.
Ranching and livestock contribute to productive livelihoods and an ever-increasing economic importance in tropical countries. TGI is therefore committed to making this a more productive, sustainable, and profitable activity for the rancher and the larger community.
The center is based in Parrita, a town on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. The institute consists of a cattle farm where the production cycle is closed; the animals are raised from birth, allowing us to deal with the daily reality of the Costa Rican livestock sector.
The Tropical Grazing Institute is a US-based 501c3 non profit organization.
Our Mission is to develop and improve sustainable practices for livestock production in tropical regions and educate small farmers how to produce healthier meat, better protect the environment and in the process improve their livelihood opportunities.
To be the leading researcher and innovator in sustainable tropical grazing practices, enabling livestock producers in the tropics to increase their levels of productivity, strengthen self-initiatives and ultimately establish a better quality of life.
Everything we do starts with the belief that sustainable livestock farming practices are superior to conventional methods and that adoption of sustainable holistic methods, supported by scientific research, produces net positive outcomes for farmers and graziers, soils, plants, livestock and end consumers.
